Local Liquidity Exceeds RO 28.6 BILLION by End of May 2026

MUSCAT: Total local liquidity (M2) in the Sultanate of Oman recorded an increase of 12.7% to reach RO 28.6012 billion by the end of May 2026, compared with RO 25.3760 billion during the corresponding period in 2025, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The data showed that the narrow money supply (M1) increased by 26.9% to RO 9.0730 billion at the end of May 2026, compared with RO 7.1483 billion during the same period last year.


Total currency issued rose by 8.9% to RO 1.7579 billion by the end of May 2026, compared with RO 1.6142 billion at the end of May 2025.


Foreign assets increased by 2.5%, equal to RO 7.5936 billion, compared with RO 7.4101 billion during the corresponding period of 2025.


Private sector deposits with commercial banks and Islamic windows grew by 10.5% to RO 24.2188 billion by the end of May 2026, compared with RO 21.9112 billion during the same period of the previous year.


Total loans and financing extended by commercial banks and Islamic windows increased by 11.5% to RO 37.4224 billion by the end of May 2026, compared with RO 33.5629 billion during the corresponding period in 2025.


Meanwhile, the average interest rate on total loans declined by 4.0% to 5.327% at the end of May 2026, compared with 5.551% during the same period last year


The Omani Rial nominal effective exchange rate index also declined by 2.8%, falling from 117.6 points at the end of May 2025 to 114.3 points by the end of May 2026. — ONA
